Finding the Area of a Rectangle

READ the instruction below and INTERACT with the GeoGebra applet on the right.

  1. Move the points base and height on the sliders, to make a new rectangle. Notice the change in area.

  2. Set the base to 2 and the height to 5, what is the area of the rectangle? Now reverse their values, what is the area of the rectangle?

  3. Repeat using different values. How is this model related to whole number multiplication?
